A piece I wrote about my first trip to Austin’s South by Southwest music festival is in this week’s issue of C-VILLE Weekly. I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to squeeze in a mention of the people that made my trip possible: the members of Brooklyn’s Donny Hue and the Colors and DC’s Olivia and the Housemates, who let me tag along in the van and hang out with them during the festival. So, if you happen to read this, thanks guys! Go check out their music; it’s good stuff.
The article is part of a collection of narratives about journeys to “far-flung,” unusual places, including a Twin Peaks festival, Death Valley and Chicago in February.
And a final note: I swear my mood was not anywhere near that reflected by the guy in the art for the piece. I don’t know if I’m capable of such a grimace. Plus, it wasn’t coffee that was in my hand during most of my time at SXSW.
