Neko Case – Middle Cyclone

The production shines, in a good way. Neko’s voice spearheads things as usual, marrying words and melodies with just enough twang and sentiment. Her wonderful songwriting digs a little deeper.

Antony and the Johnsons – The Crying Light

An apt album to cue up while you drift into the night, as snow falls on the fire escape and dreams of a pleasant, distant past and bright future mingle. Label: Secretly Canadian [myspace]

Pavement – Brighten The Corners: Nicene Creedence Ed.

“What about the voice of Geddy Lee, how did it get so high? I wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy? (‘I know him, and he does!’)” A Plus. Label: Matador [website]
